Two Sunday afternoon classes will be required for student teaching.
First we learn about the physical body (anamaykosha) using asana, anatomy and alignment. Then, we move into the breath body (pranamayakosha) where diaphramatic breathing is key. The emotional body (manomayakosha) is the mind that learns from the outside, listens and takes in information. Vijyanamayakosha (wisdom body) refers to that which is already inside and includes our conditioning and reactive patterns and reflects the personality and character. Ultimately we seek Anandamayakosha, which is the abundant joy and deep nourishment that is found in connection with the entire universe.
Emphasis is on anatomy, physiology and moving in alignment. We begin to explore asana not as movement to be perfected, rather as an exploration of the freedom that our bodies can reach when we move in healthy, therapeutic ways. Over time, we move deeper into pranayama, bandhas, mudras, spinal movements and designing an asana practice. Understanding the stress response is an intergral part of using breath as a tool to change our health. The last several weeks will focus on teaching techniques, meditation and relaxation techniques, class observation and we create and teach classes for beginning yoga students. At the end of each session, we take time for relaxation with yoga nidra or guided meditation, learning how to care for ourselves as much as others.
Cost: $2200.00
90% attendance is required for graduation and registration with Yoga Alliance as a yoga instructor at the RYT 200 hour level.
